Combat Employee LimitationsEveryone has areas of improvement they need to work on. This is true in life and in the workplace. When it comes to employees, no worker is created equal. Everyone has shortcomings in one area or another, which is why creating the most efficient team that plays to each individual’s strength is vital.

Think about your employees and what you consider to be weaknesses. What exactly are those qualities? Disorganization? Arrogance? Inconsistencies? As an exercise, create a list of your team’s ten greatest areas of opportunity. Once you have that list, choose the top three.

Now, complete the same exercise doing the reverse. Pinpoint your team’s top ten positive attributes. Then, narrow that list down to three. Compare both lists, and see how an area of opportunity can really be a strength when utilized in the right way. Arrogance to some is confidence to others. Disorganization can be viewed as creativity.

The lesson here is that hidden in weaknesses are strengths, and every weakness has a correlating strength. Instead of high turnover rates and a revolving door of players, to your team into one that has staying power by leveraging the positive against the negative, and filling in the gaps where there needs to be added value.
