7 Ways to Boost Employee Morale

Employee morale is a fragile thing in the workplace. It can easily dissipate, and when this happens, productivity goes along with it. If your employees appear unmotivated to come to work, it can have a disastrous effect on productivity. Below are seven ways we suggest to help boost your employee morale and, in turn, productivity.

  • Make Your Employees Feel Important
  • Employees need to realize how their efforts contribute to the overall value for the company.   Individually acknowledging their hard work is a must.   Additionally, when creating goals for employees, if you can have those goals linked to team, group, division, and overall company goals is a strong motivator for employees to accomplish those goals.   This has the added benefit of making the time spent by employees focused on the key things that are of use to the company.

  • Celebrate Your Company and Employee Accomplishments
  • When working on a project, it’s easy to continue looking forward rather than appreciating what your employees have already done. However, celebrating your employee’s achievements is what will keep them motivated. Compile a list of some of the most impressive accomplishments within the company and create a top 100 list from the compilation. Distribute the list to all employees within the company.

  • Do Not Be Stringent in Allowing Time Off
  • While promoting a culture of a strong work ethic is great for productivity, it’s also important to recognize that employees that work long hours also need time off or they’ll burn out more quickly. Allow time off to those that need it. Encourage your employees to use their time off wisely, such as to take on innovative projects. This will get their cylinders firing once more, and it will likely spark their creativity.

  • Introduce New Methods for Getting Things Done
  • One way in which a Denver-based company is spicing up the workplace is by dividing departments/floors of the company into “neighborhoods.” During one meeting day, the neighborhoods faced off in a company-wide basketball tournament, complete with mascots, jerseys, team names, and cheerleaders.  Using this idea, you can also introduce contests for each neighborhood to solve problems facing your company in innovative ways.   Encourage all types of ideas, and celebrate all of the answers – even if only one idea is chosen to move ahead with.

  • Introduce Monthly Game Days
  • Having fun is a great way to de-stress and give the mind time to power down and rest. Give your employees a way to take a load off by introducing a day during the month that is dedicated to recreation and fun. This will take your employees’ minds off work for just a little while, and it will give them a chance to bond with their co-workers outside of the workplace.

  • Encourage Positivity
  • Rather than trying to weather the storm during difficult projects, you should make it a point to spark positivity among your employees. Regularly hosting an inspiring class is also a good idea, as is sharing uplifting stories that motivate.
